For me, the most profitable way to build my list is to use squeeze pages with video - not just any video, but a pro-looking one that helps with high conversions and opt-in subscribers. Instead of leading people directly to a sales page, offer them something of value for free and a series of useful content related to the product. You need to PRESELL the product with effective video.
My all time favorite for this was AffiliateSilverBullet, but they haven't produced any new ones for at least a year for some reason. A new service almost as good has just started called Killer Video Squeeze Pages.
